To design a mobile app that tracks and accumulates a user’s steps which can be transferred into donation money for nonprofits.
Objective
To design a mobile app that tracks and accumulates a user’s steps which can be transferred into donation money for nonprofits.
About The App
Stride is an app that accumulates steps of its users over time that turn into money to be donated to any nonprofit within the app. Stride creates value because the user can feel good about donating to causes and also live a healthy lifestyle by choosing to walk instead of driving, biking, or taking ride shares.
This app requires no money from the user except for sweat equity. The users can use this app to give back to society and help nonprofits. Most people do not believe they have time to volunteer or have the extra money to donate, but with this app, users are able to contribute without having to spend any of their own money.
My Role
This was a final project for my Mobile 1 class. In my role, as a student, I designedpersonas, sketches, wireframes, style tile, a flowchart, and high-fi prototypes.
Design Challenge
My challenge was designing the mobile app. I did not realize how many screens an interface designer has to design for the programmer to develop. Once I began wireframing, I realized my scope of work was too much for the given timeline my instructor gave me. I understood why my teacher gave us a recommended screen limit of 10 - 15 in the project brief, because it is time consuming to design an entire interface in a couple weeks.
Takeaways
I should have developed a more diverse set of personas because my target audience is all ages, but I only created personas from people aged 19 - 31 years old. If I created personas from a diverse set of ages my design might have turned out different.
What I Will Do Differently in the Future
Although this was only a class project, it would have been interesting to see if I could actually design and develop this idea. Figuring out where the money would come from would be the most crucial part.
